CO-OP COURSE EVENTS

Placement in a job (paid or volunteer) that enhances your ability to succeed in the career you are considering.
Complete a minimum of 150 clock hours on the job and accomplish course assignments.
Register for Co-op course.
Complete the Learning Plan. Schedule conferences as required for updates as you submit weekly logs (journal entries that chronicle each day’s work-forms provided).
Plan and discuss arrangements for the Coordinator’s field visit to your job site.

LEARNING PLAN: Develop up to four objectives with your work supervisor. They may relate to any of the following areas in which you both believe growth will enhance your chances for ultimate success in your chosen field: JOB KNOWLEDGE, TECHNICAL SKILLS, ATTITUDE, and/or INITIATIVE. The shaded area beneath each objective on the Learning Plan is provided to clarify the actions you are expected to accomplish achieving the stated objective. It shows what "measuring rod" your supervisor intends to use in evaluating your performance in each given area. Each evaluation statement inserted in the shaded zone should consider such things as:     The actions/outcomes your supervisor anticipates from you.
Standards by which your degree of success will be measured.
If applicable, any challenges you may encounter at work.
Complete the form, sign (supervisor also), and return to the Co-op Office within one week.

COURSE GRADE: 50% of your grade will be based on your supervisor’s evaluation (mid-term/final) of your performance and 50% on your academic performance. In the event of extenuating circumstances which impact assignment completion, please notify the Co-op Coordinator immediately.

INCOMPLETE GRADES: Because this course has "open" registration throughout the semester, some participants may get started late and may have to continue into the next semester. In such a case, an "I" grade will be issued. An official grade change form will be submitted as soon as the student completes course requirements. The student bears ultimate responsibility for completing coursework and removing the "I" as stated in the college catalog:

"I – Incomplete. A grade of "I" may be assigned a student for failing to complete class work on schedule. The incomplete grade will automatically be changed to "F" if the deficiency is not corrected by the student within 30 calendar days from the end of the term the grade was earned."

Students on Financial Aid may face stricter regulations, so be sure to follow the guidance of your source of aid.

DAILY LOGS: Maintain a journal summarizing each day’s work experience and how it relates to your objectives. Forms are provided for this purpose. Turn in completed forms each week.

MID-TERM ASSIGNMENT OPTIONS: These will not be returned. DUE DATE: SEE FRONT PAGE

Pictorial display depicting yourself on the job, half of a piece of poster board will suffice. Use computer for titles and captions. Include your name, the employer’s name, and semester. Examples are on display in and near our office, showing the standards expected. We will be glad to help if you are having any difficulties.

A brief video (approximately 5 minutes) of you, performing typical tasks on the job. You may explain directly to the camera what is occurring as you are filmed; or you may prefer to dub an explanation over the video scene later. Plan well before attempting and include your supervisor and co-worker where practical.

Three typed, double-spaced critiques of up-to-date information applicable to your major or your chosen field found in recent periodicals/trade magazines. Each critique should be one page of discussion. Include remarks about the implications of the newly acquired information on your future activities. Attach a copy of each article.

Personal Resume – one page.

FINAL ASSIGNMENT: These will not be returned. DUE DATE: SEE FRONT PAGE.

A two page term paper (typed, double-spaced) relating to your training experience this semester.

a. Explain your job setting, where you work, what the company does, and what you do for the company.

Discuss your four objectives. Explain how each objective was achieved.

b. Share implications (what effect has this experience had on your future plans)?

c. State your total earnings during this semester on your Co-op assignment, to apprise the Department of         Education on the impact Co-op students have on the economy and taxes.

the 3-credit Co-op course at least two semesters (if the student occupies the work station that long or longer). Failure to do so, jeopardizes a student’s "good standing" status and academic records are withheld until deficiencies are removed.

Be scheduled to graduate in the year the award is issued.
