POSITION TITLE: Groundskeeper
REPORTS TO: Grounds Supervisor
BASIC FUNCTION: Semiskilled work in the use of tools and equipment in the maintenance of campus ground.  Hours are 6 am - 2 pm, Monday-Friday.
CLASSIFICATION: Career Service (grade 6)
RESPONSIBILITIES: Uses medium size tractors/mowing machines to mow the large open areas of grass located on the campus.  Uses edger, chain saw, grass whip, and gasoline powered equipment to maintain campus grounds.  Uses hand mowers for cutting on the various size islands.

Trims trees and bushes according to a basic shape desired.  Weeds planters and other areas.  Uses grass whips to cut the tall weeds in the outer ditches.

Mulches plants.  Waters all areas as directed.  Repairs sprinkler heads and pipes.  Digs holes and prepares for planting of shrubs.  Plants shrubs, trees, flowering annuals, etc.  Trims shrubs.

Fertilizes grass area.  Seeds with winter grass.  Fertilizes plants and trees.  Applies the chemicals needed to maintain the grounds.

Repairs small engines.  Changes mower blades.  Puts on parts to equipment when the need arises.  Operates diesel engine tractor with pull behind large mower.  Operates welding machine when necessary.  Operates spraying equipment.

Assists with moving furniture and equipment on campus as necessary.

Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Some experience in the care and maintenance of grounds;  HS diploma/equivalent preferred 
SALARY: $8.43/hr.
DEADLINE: Open Until Filled, review beginning 7/25/08.
