art exhibit at GCCC. |
The College Reach-Out Program (CROP) is a state funded program which provides college
experience to students entering the sixth grade. The goals for the program are to prepare
students for the academic rigors of high school and to stimulate their minds and
imaginations as they begin to prepare for their futures.
| WHAT DO CROP PARTICIPANTS DO? |
During the year, the students are exposed to role models with various professional
backgrounds and interesting occupations. Students receive instruction in study
skills, math, computers, and personal development. Also included in the activities
are field trips to Tallahassee, Marianna, and Pensacola, as well as tours of various local
businesses and institutions. The students have an opportunity to visit Gulf Coast
Community College during a typical school day and participate in a science laboratory
experience and other college activities.
Reach-Out students receive passes to Commodore basketball games and cultural
productions offered by the college. Rewards such as book bags, tee shirts, notebooks
and caps are given for grades, citizenship, and special achievements in school and in the
community.
